Cleveland Clinic is changing the way health care is delivered in Lorain County and surrounding communities with 10 locations, including a new hospital, and more than 500 primary and specialty care physicians.
“Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital represents a change in how care is delivered moving forward in our evolving health care environment,” says Rebecca Starck, MD, president of Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital. “We’re implementing our clinical best practices and utilizing advanced technology to enhance the patient experience. At Avon Hospital, we’re providing the right care in the right place at the right time for this community.”
Connected to Cleveland Clinic Richard E. Jacobs Health Center, Avon Hospital has 126 private patient rooms, a 12-bed intensive care unit, six operating rooms, a joint cardiac catheterization and interventional radiology lab, an expanded emergency department and lab and radiology services.
Avon Hospital offers primary and specialty services, including cancer care, cardiology, critical-care medicine, endocrinology, family medicine, gastroenterology, gynecology, infectious disease, internal medicine, nephrology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, pulmonology, surgery, urology and vascular medicine.
Designed as a “hospital of the future,” the facility is equipped with sophisticated technology to monitor patients during and after their hospitalization, with the goal of improving patient outcomes and caregiver efficiency. Technology also brings self-service capabilities to the bedside; interactive televisions allow patients to control room temperature and watch educational videos; and there are plans to provide e-consult connectivity with other Cleveland Clinic specialists.
In addition to innovative technology and capabilities, the Cleveland Clinic model of care in Lorain County centers around the patient-caregiver partnership.
“The relationship between the patient, physician and other caregivers is vitally important to achieve the best outcomes,” explains Starck. “Our team of caregivers coordinates care between the hospital, home, physicians’ offices and other care facilities throughout Lorain County. Patients who need highly specialized care can transition seamlessly to other Cleveland Clinic facilities.”
